Studio Furthermore

Studio Furthermore was founded in 2015 by artists Marina Dragomirova & Iain Howlett. Dragomirova gained BAs in Graphic Design and Interior Design from the New Bulgarian University in Sofia. She subsequently met Howlett on the Design Products course during their masters studies at the Royal College of Art.

Studio Furthermore, Future Heritage 2019 Alumni

Operating in a space forged between craft technique and industrial logic, Studio Furthermore strive to seek out new kinds of material and cultural realities. These realities are born out of constant hands-on materials exploration which the studio formulate through ongoing research into science as well as naturally occurring processes. The studio creates design objects in glass, ceramic, metal and other materials.

With their unique material processes the designers create furniture and lighting as well as objects for living and other design outcomes. Studio Furthermore produce studio ceramics that have been included in the permanent collection of the Vitra Design Museum as well as private collections worldwide and are featured on the documentary film 'Materials: The Making of Ceramic'.  The studio produce one off commissions and gallery editions as well as products for a small selection of European design brands. Their work has been exhibited internationally at various museums and fairs including the Gent Design Museum, Venice Architecture Biennale and also a solo show at the Aram gallery - London. Studio Furthermore collaborates with galleries including Nilufar in Milan, Apalazzo Gallery in Brescia and Exile Gallery in Vienna.

At Future Heritage

Studio Furthermore made a new range of aluminium foam lights, both wall and free standing as well as new glazed terracotta foam pieces. The ceramic foam process is similar to one used by Nasa for insulating space ships, but Studio Furthermore use Parian a bisque porcelain to impregnate a synthetic foam, which is then fired, melting to leave the almost weightless ceramic. Studio Furthermore made tektites bowls in this porcelain and showed their foamed aluminium furniture ‘Moon Rock’.

For London Design week 2019 Furthermore showed in A Second Life in Sketch curated by Matter of Stuff and Masters of Disguise group show for Seeds Gallery. Their new Tektites studio production edition will be released mid 2020.
