From sumptuous velvets to lightweight linens, incorporating fabrics and textiles into your interior design scheme, is crucial to setting the tone of a space. When specifying, consider the textures, colours, patterns, tactility and performance of the fabrics you choose, to create a cohesive and functional scheme for your project.
Fabrics can be used creatively in so many different elements, such as upholstery, drapery and accessories to add rich layers of texture and visual interest.
Lindsey Rendall, BIID Past President and co-founder of Rendall & Wright comments: “Fabrics should never be an afterthought, make them central to your scheme. Effective use of fabrics and textiles will work to unify the room and help bring the space together. They will help set the mood and reflect the style of the space; from luxurious silks in a Mayfair apartment, crisp cotton voiles in a summer beach house, to textural cosy wools in a country retreat”.
Decorex offers designers a huge range of exhibitors showcasing the very latest collections and trends in fabrics. From heritage brands to cutting-edge new designs, discover a curated collection of distinctive fabrics to inspire your next project. Exhibitors to look out for include:
Ian Sanderson is a family run business based in the South of England specialising in designing and producing fabrics for residential and contract interiors, such as boutique hotels. Their design philosophy is to create unique textiles and colours that maintain and strengthen their distinctive ‘English’ identity and style.
Design director Helen Sanderson uses her creative training and knowledge to discover patterns, textures and colourations which inspire her to produce original designs. The development process for their fabrics can take many months working with artisan weavers and printers to refine designs before they are ready to be offered to clients.
Founded in 1984, Textile Designer, Titley and Marr produce seasonal collections each designed in-house with styles inspired by traditional documents from across the globe, recreating imagery and colourations that suit modern day living environments. Printed and woven fabrics made of textured yarns, wools, velvets, linens and cotton, combined with a mix of natural colours and rich vibrant hues predominate their collections.
Over the past 30 years Titley and Marr have developed an extensive knowledge of the manufacturing capabilities of most of the European weaving and printing factories. This has led to collaborations with Interior Designers in producing bespoke products for specific projects. Such as one-off wallpaper or fabric printed in a design to suit a brand or highly technical fabrics to suit specific contract projects in one-off colours.
Bisson-Bruneel is an editor of contemporary furnishing fabrics, the Lyon-based brand was launched over 50 years ago by François Bruneel. The Bruneel’s, two brothers that perpetuate the history of this family-owned company, contribute their passion and creativity to their customers’ textile projects. More than just elements of decoration, Bisson Bruneel designs fabrics that act as architectural details and materials that create space and enhance light.
The Hampshire-based family business puts excellence at the heart of everything they do. They sketch and paint by hand, exploring different effects until they find the right look for each design. Their trusted mills bring generations of expertise in printing techniques, colours, and materials, so their fabrics and wallpapers are imbued with rich, vivid hues that are unique to Linwood. Each of their designs are made with love; that you won’t find anywhere else.
