The Simple Shade Wool collection by Naomi Paul was a favourite at this year's show. the collection evolved after Naomi Paul was approached by The Campaign for Wool (Patron HRH Prince Charles) to design and make a collection of woollen luminaires. With its elegant outlines and neutral colourway, each shade in the collection takes around 10 hours to crochet, and is made to order.
Wool is an ideal fibre for lighting design as it is naturally fire retardant. The Shetland and Aran (this is the term given to the chunky weight) British wool used for the Simple Shades collection are yarns which lend themselves perfectly to interiors as they are strong robust and chunky with a beautiful subtle lustre. These properties also mean they are not popular choices for fashion use and so are not widely sort after, therefore it is great to repurpose this natural and sustainable resource
