Francis Sultana launches his new furniture collection

Francis Sultana, designer of furniture, homes (and now yachts) has launched his new furniture collection "Celia".  Despite the cold London weather, the collection was filled with sun-drenched Balearic inspiration – palm woods, patinated bronze and linens across cabinets, upholstery and lighting. The collection was launched to the public at David Gill Galleries in St James's.

Guests from the worlds of art, fashion and design came together to celebrate: Dame Zaha Hadid and Roland Mouret rubbed shoulders with fellow designers du jour Charlotte Dellal and Lara Bohinc. Other designers in attendance included Tom Dixon, Fredrikson Stallard, Barnaby Barford, Oriel Harwood and interior designers such as Allegra Hicks.

Below is a selection from Francis Sultana Editions' new collection, each finely crafted piece named (as always) after Francis' own friends and admired colleagues.

Estoril banquette

The Estoril Banquette (above) in 'matador red' with patinated bronze evokes thoughts of  a distinctly modern, urban opulence.

Shaari banquette

Sultana describes the dramatic shades lending character to items such as the bottle green leather upholstering in the Shaari Banqette (above) as 'moorish'. Often incorporating hints of couture in his work, the sweeping form of this design relates to an elegant ruffle that Spanish fashion designer Cristobal Balenciaga used to apply to his iconic evening gowns.

Raphael floor lamp

The Raphael Floor lamp (above),with patinated bronze and silk, adorns the collection's complete spectrum of spectacular lighting, from sinuous floor lamps to hurricane lamps made from blown glass.

Francis Sultana is certainly a man on a design mission. Read his industry profile for more about what first drew him into the world of interior design, his work, and his inspirations.
