Design-Nation is the Great British portfolio for Craft, Design and Product and offers a one stop destination for retailers, manufacturers and press together with industry professionals who want to commission, invest and source great design from British-based creatives.
The online portfolio was launched over a decade ago by design expert Peta Levi MBE to present the best of British-based contemporary design, with ground-breaking collaborations between designer, manufacturer and retail. With products encompassing textiles, ceramic, glass, metal, furniture, digital and surface design, Design Nation have a long standing relationship with Decorex.
For last year's show we invited the designers to make a response to the themes explored by guest curator Corinne Julius with Future Heritage. The stellar portfolio of outstanding designers each created exceptional and unique contemporary designs, exploring 21st century ideas of luxury and are destined to become collectable pieces.
A few months on from the show, we caught up with four of Design Nation’s designers to find out more about their work, their Decorex experience and plans for the future...
Images from l-r: Moody Monday (Eliza Kesuma) showed a selection of wallpaper and velvet furnishing fabrics from her new ranges. Heidi Harrington showed her Forest tableware in two designs, plus a large bowl being made to her design by Royal Stafford. Anna Gravelle showed brand new Drum Stools in a variety of colours and finishes, plus two luxury throws. Linda Bloomfield showed her Morandi range of vessels, bottles and jugs, made with her own glazes in neutral greys and mustard
Tell us a little about your experience of Decorex 2015...
Anna: It was a thrill to have the chance to exhibit at Decorex with Design Nation - big tick on the to do list! I made lots of quality industry contacts which has led to commissions.
Heidi: I had a great experience at Decorex 2015. It was the launch of my new Forest Tableware and I've had a really great response both at the show and since in terms of sales and orders. It was great to be part of the Design Nation stand, I thought that all of our work worked really well together to make a striking stand.
Linda: I enjoyed exhibiting on the Design Nation stand at Decorex as it was a well curated group stand and there was a lot of support from Liz Cooper of Design Nation as well as from the other designers. There was a lot of interest at the show from interior designers looking for decorative objects.
What are you currently working on?
Heidi: I am currently developing new designs for my Large Serve Bowls which has been my best seller in my Forest Tableware range, and I am also making some new serve ware shapes - smaller dishes and platters- for my handmade screenprinted porcelain ranges, alongside producing my core Woodcut range of studio porcelain.
Linda: I am currently working on a group of larger bottles as part of my Morandi range
Eliza: Along with working on some exclusive designs for Tektura, I am currently working on completing STELLAR (the new collection) ready for its launch in May 2016, which will show hand-printed wall coverings, home accessories and our first ever release of interior fabrics.
