When Decorex launched in the 1970s, interior design wasn’t exactly looking its hottest - that’s me working it in exhibit A above! Whilst we can proudly take a moment to go misty eyed about our design heritage, it’s also an exciting time to look forward and give our current independent design talent a woop woop and a big hug of encouragement. Here are some of my current British indie favourites, cheerful design to brighten up even the most grismal of days.
Rachael Taylor is a designer and textile artist based in Leeds. She creates 'patterns to make you happy' and developed her early signature style of layering, textures and quirky hand drawn linework to set up her label Rachael Taylor Designs, selling her products online and in stores across the UK. She‘s also secured licensed product ranges sold worldwide. Rachael recently launched a groundbreaking e-course called 'The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design'.
Anne-Louise Charlton is a freelance design consultant and project manager, based in Manchester. She recently worked on the interior design and fit-out of the BBC’s awardwinning new HQ at MediaCityUK, from concept to completion. Anne-Louise’s design blog is studio a-lc.
