Jesper Eriksson is a product designer currently based in London and a recent graduate from the Royal College of Art. In his work he nurtures the re-examination of his surroundings. He is interested in culture & cultural behaviours, materiality and values, and the Human. His work often examines and challenges ideas within these themes while suggesting a disruptive yet viable proposal.
Coal stories suggests the use of coal as a floor.
Coal is arguably amongst the most influential materials of the industrial age. In one way or another it is directly or indirectly responsible for many technological advances, providing inexpensive and large amounts of energy. Throughout history it has been the centre of economical, political, environmental and social discussions, debates and often scandals.
While the project proposes a different use of coal, it also disrupts the very paradigm of utilising coal. It raises questions around the notions of value, luxury and the utilisation of the material throughout history: a fossil fuel transformed into energy.
