Get a glimpse into what BIID president and Design Talks speaker Matthew Freeman looks forward to at Decorex, and what you can expect from his session at Design Talks this year.
Deccorex has always been one of my favourite trade show destinations to meet with well-known brands, discover new and inspiring products, learn new things and of course, to meet with friends and colleagues in the design community.
I’m really looking forward to seeing some of the new product launches and exciting collections from the likes of Cole & Son, Armac Martin, THG, Bert Frank, Stereo, Pooky Lighting, Serip and V&A Interiors.
I’m also keen to see some of the special features lined up for this year such as the tablescaping room sets which will be part of ‘Decorex Diningscapes’ - the collaborations will be brilliant. I can’t wait to see the Bertrando di Renzo with Les Ottomans diningscape room set, which is sure to be a whirlwind of colour! I plan to check out some of the immersive demonstrations and meet some of the talented up and coming artisans and craftspeople, who’ll be Upstairs at Decorex. It’s a great place to spot unique pieces and find out about new talent.
The design of the Decorex bar this year sounds really exciting, I love the Italian inspiration – I’m looking forward to seeing what Carden Cunnietti have designed for visitors. The bar is always a real focus point for the event and I’ll certainly be there at some point during the show with an aperitivo in hand!
I was delighted to be asked to chair the BIID panel session which is part of the ever-popular Decorex Design Talks programme. The panel discussion is titled; ‘Making sustainable choices: Questions to ask your supplier’. In this talk we’ll be delving into the importance of sustainable specification when sourcing products for your interior design projects. Join us at 12 pm on 11th October in the main seminar theatre. I’m thrilled to be joined by a panel of BIID member experts, including Liz Bell, Anouska Anquetil and Augustine Atobatele, who will discuss with me the key questions you should ask your supplier to truly understand the provenance of your materials and help make the most sustainable choices possible.
Acknowledging and celebrating design projects that put sustainability front and centre, is high on the BIID agenda, as 2022 sees our first BIID Interior Design Awards. We are proud to have a fantastic shortlist of projects large and small, commercial and residential, which represents a thriving interior design industry here in the UK. I am looking forward to seeing who triumphs on the day during our very first awards ceremony on 5th October at Drapers Hall.
