The Collection About Lindsay Alker About the Inspiration
THE COLLECTION
A collection of 7 designs for fabrics & wallpapers by British textile
designer Lindsay Alker.
The signature prints ‘Battle Great Wood’ & ‘Nook Beach’
inspired by the Arts & Crafts movement are complimented with
contemporary geometrics creating a new traditional aesthetic.
The collection is designed with lino-blocks and
retains the uneven texture and intentional flaws.
The fabrics and wallpapers are hand silkscreened
in England by artisan printers on natural linens and voiles.
As a result irregularities & overlapping of screens occur which
all contribute to the unique beauty of a hand printed product.

ABOUT THE INSPIRATION
The collection was inspired by a love of ‘Arts & Crafts’ design in England and Gustav Stickley’s Craftsman homes in the U.S.. The designs have longevity and were incredibly well made with good quality materials. The Arts & Crafts movement promoted the idea of fine craftsmanship and hand-made designs. The furniture and textiles were sold in the London department store Liberty & Co. Lindsay Alker’s collection of 7 fabric designs became available at Liberty’s in June 2010, her first retail outlet!
The designs are made with lino block prints, a traditional British Folk Art technique.
‘Battle Great Wood ‘ featuring running deer is the signature print. Deer and woodland scenes have appeared traditionally on fabrics and tapestries since medieval times in England. The intention was to create a distinctively classic British collection but update it with contemporary geometrics thus broadening its timeless appeal.
The fabrics are sourced in the UK wherever possible and hand silkscreened in England.
The simple colour palette of red, grey, white, and natural inspired by Shaker interiors, in particular at Hancock in Massachusetts where colour is used sparingly.
The names were chosen for their poetic value and to identify the collection with the beautiful location in Sussex, England where Lindsay Alker has lived & worked for 18 years
