Parsua has chosen to introduce the concept of the “haute couture” rug: a unique piece, made to measure, and above all an object of ethical luxury.
In 2001, Dominique Chevalier and Ali Bayat, renowned antique dealers, created in France the CB PARSUA company: design and production of high quality “green” rugs that will stand the test of time and become the antiques of tomorrow.
Our rugs are made in Iran, not in workshops or factories, but in village houses as they were in Persia in the 17th and 18th Centuries. Our weavers are reviving the long-forgotten ancestral art of carpet-weaving through their skill and expertise.
Each creation is made entirely by hand, using hand-spun virgin wool and only natural dyes. The wool comes from the Shiraz valley, recognised as the silkiest in the world, and of incomparable quality. At the end of the production process, each carpet is laid in the sun to create a natural and exceptional patina. Since the creation of Parsua in 2001, we have insisted on using exclusively organic processes: no chemical products, no energy wastage. In the United States we are classed as a “green product”.
Why are Parsua rugs “green” and ethical?
•Wool, the primary material in the rugs, is a naturally renewable material and sourced locally.
•The secondary material used in the rugs is a 100% cotton foundation, which is also naturally renewable.
•The rugs are made by hand on looms. This method requires no consumption of electricity or fossil fuels.
•The primary energy sources used in production are water, used to wash the wool and prepare the dyes, and the sun, which is used to patina the finished rugs.
•No child labour is ever used in Parsua’s rug production.
•Dye stuffs used are 100% natural, primarily vegetable. No chemicals are used at any stage of Parsua’s rug production.
•Parsua rugs are sustainable not only due to their manufacturing processes but also in their timeless designs.
•Parsua rugs require minimal packaging when transported.
