Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres

Decorex International 2011 is proud to announce their support of Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres.

Maggie's Centres are for anyone affected by cancer. They are places where people are welcome whenever they need to - from just being diagnosed, or undergoing treatment, to post-treatment, recurrence, end of life to bereavement. 

Some of the world’s leading architects have designed Maggie’s Centres, a true haven for anyone affected by cancer.

Decorex International hosted an exclusive seminar by acclaimed architect Piers Gough CBE and Head of Interiors at Paul Smith, Nicholas Chandor, who gave insight into the unique design of the new Maggie's Centre in Nottingham, due to open later this year.

Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid and Richard Rogers have all put their own stamp on these thoughtfully designed buildings, places that can provide a sanctuary away from a busy hospital, complemented by the emotional and psychological support offered by the Maggie’s Centre staff.

Piers Gough CBE of CZWG Architects has designed the Maggie'sCentre in Nottingham, which is due to open at the end of 2011. Paul Smith has designed the interior, “The idea of Maggie’s is such a unique one and we are very privileged to be involved in the centre in my home town of Nottingham where we have been invited to decorate and furnish the interior, working closely with the architect Piers Gough.” 
 
Piers has given the centre a near symmetrical design with a generous height which gives the building a sense of space and balance. As with other centres, it will be a homely and comfortable space, with balconies extended from the kitchen and meeting rooms opening onto the garden. Sheltered by trees, the centre will take on a playful external appearance, made up of interlocking ovals, to entice people through the door into a harmony of light and space creating a uniquely welcoming environment.
